U Morok - King Chilli

U-Morok (King Chilli) is one of the hottest chillies in the world. King Chilli is also known as Ghost Pepper, Ghost Chilli, Naga Jolokia and BhootJolokia, The Scoville Heat Unit (SHUs) is reported to be 20,41,427. In Manipur, King Chilli is known as U-Morok and is consumed in fresh or dried form and used for its distinct flavour and aroma in the various Manipuri culinary preparations. Due to its distinct taste and pungency, this chilli is used for making pickles, adding hotness to non-vegetarian food, and to prepare Manipuri local cuisine such as Eromba, Singju, U-MorokMetpa (a form of Manipuri chutney). King chillies are used as a spice, food, medicine. Usually sold as fresh, whole dried or powder. Value-added products like paste, sauce, chutney, oleoresin, essential oil, pickles, etc. Capsaicin used in various pharmaceutical industries and other allied industries can be extracted economically.
